SETTE was founded in the late 1970s by a group of cable companies seeking to enrich French programming. The TV channel that was created, TVFQ 99, was originally intended for the broadcast of French-language programming from France, Belgium, Switzerland, and Quebec.
Called the Société d’édition et de transcodage t.e. limitée at the time, the company now known as SETTE devoted itself for many years to the programming, broadcasting, transcoding, and distribution of this original TV channel.
Since its beginnings, SETTE has handled broadcasting, distribution, and signal monitoring for a number of TV channels. The company also introduced standards conversion services in 1985, closed captioning in 2002, and one of Canada’s first described video services in 2005.
In 2020, SETTE launched its asset management service SETTE Media.
